still not sure

I'm still not sure about the colors in this piece but it's too late now to change them! LOL! So I guess I need to get over it and press on. I've been hard pressed to stay awake on the train and I lost a battle a couple of times over the past five or so rides. But I'm in no hurry.

I saw this new chart from Cross-eyed Cricket on the Stitch Bitches blog earlier in the week. It's just calling to me. I love Halloween designs and this one is so whimsical I have to do it.
So I wander over to the Cross-Eyed Cricket website and see if I can't find some details and sure enough they kindly posted all the details. I see that it's charted for DMC/Anchor and get this - Thread Gatherer Silk N' Colors. Now I don't know about you but spending $7.00 a skein for silk floss is a bit rich for me so I figure I can convert it into cotton over-dyed so I go over to another website and look up the SNC colors. Yes, you have already guessed it, most of the nine skeins of SNC required for this piece are those very unique shades that just can't be duplicated in any existing cotton over-dyed. The beauty of SNC is not in question here, just the price. And looking at the piece it doesn't look like much of any of the skeins will be needed. Another strike against buying them. I remembered that I found a retailer on eBay that has amazing prices on many brands of floss so I emailed them and find out if they can sell me just what I need. Well they can and for only $40.00. That is a HUGE savings but still, do I want to spend $40.00 for tiny pieces of silk floss? I'm thinking no. But I'll pre-order the chart and get a good look at the color photo and make my final decision at that time. But I'm fairly certain I'll be doing mine with cotton. :-)

I would think you could convert them okay based on the pic you posted. I'm with you, that is waaay too much for floss! Love that new chart btw!
Your wip is coming along and I like the colors. I need to find a picture of the whole thing though. Haven't had time to look it up as I have been busy having a root canal the last 2 days!

I saw the chart and thought exactly the same things you did about the cost of the silks. I will probably just get it and re-chart from my existing stash. BTW the new wip is looking great!!!!

I think the colors you've chosen look fabulous! I saw the pumpkin chart as well but I'm like you, with things the way they are now silking is a luxury that I plan for. Only just the right patterns get the silk!

Margie, you might try the hand-dyed fibers website; it's http://www.hand-dyedfibers.com/oscnuked/
Vicki's silks are very reasonably priced and she may be able to match the Thread Gatherer colors, or at least come close.

That is a crazy price to pay. I'm sure you will be able to convert them to another thread.

I'm agreeing with most everyone else. The price of the silks is just so expensive. I'm sure with the chart and other DMC in hand you can find some cotton overdyed that will work.
Just think of all the money you saved NOT buying the silks. You can buy more stash! :)

I love your Autumn Blessings. I think it looks great in color as well as monochrome. As for the SNC fibers, yes, they're hugely expensive! And truth to tell, you could probably just sub cotton overdyeds and get a look you'll be satisfied with. I think I used SNC once back when I started stitching again just to see what they were like. Nice, but expensive! :D I'm surprised Cross Eyed Cricket used them -- they don't usually, right? Good luck with subbing colors!

Totally agree with you on the pricy silk floss.... I would think you can switch them out for something else, though. This is a lovely chart~~~

I like the colors on your WIP~ It is very autumnish~~

Seven dollars a skein??? I knew there was some plus side to being allergic to silk...

I have to agree with everyone else... $7 a skein for floss is just too much. I would especially not want to spend that on a piece I might not keep up year round. Love your WIP!

I really like the Cricket pattern also, if you wanted, we could go in together on the silks and split the thread/costs.....just an idea if you're interested. Keep plugging on your WIP, you'll be surprised at how much better you will like it the more you finish. I've been in the same boat as you and it usually pans out pretty good in the end.
